Eventually, what happens is that your cells can become insensitive and no longer respond to insulin, resulting in a lack of glucose in the cells to make energy and an excess of glucose in the blood. This is termed ‘insulin resistance’. You probably heard of it. Uncontrolled insulin resistance can then lead to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
